Role Purpose:

Design and develop support strategies, which can be implemented for technical support for all Save the Children – Ethiopia field office and impact area offices with all available or projected computer applications. Engage in administering; maintains and ensures the proper functionality of existing network based and standalone systems using strategic mechanism within the framework of the agency IT Policy and standardization.



Reports to: Head of IT

Staff Directly Reporting to this Post: IT Support Officer

Functional relationship– ICT Coordinator and Network Administrator





  • Prepares  annual plan of action for the task he/she is responsible;
  • Monitor server performance and availability.
  • Monitor office standard software’s and make sure all are licensed copies
  • Address operational systems issues including file and share permissions, user accounts and installing applications.
  • Support and maintain Active Directory.
  • Develop, manage and maintain server based systems and implement Group Policies according to the need for managing processes that should affect multiple staff.
  • Provide support for server applications like WSUS, Symantec Backup, Kaspersky Central Administration, and Intranet
  • Upgrade and replace server hardware where appropriate.
  • Develops and maintains any necessary documentation related to the IT systems administration or managements;
  • Recommends policies and procedures for staff and visitors access to and use of the systems, and monitors compliance with approved policies and procedures;
  • Maintains the inventory of all IT systems related items and plans to replace those below minimum requirement;
  • Designs and if needed implements disaster recovery and carries out preventive maintenance;
  • Visits selected impact area for making preventive maintenance and assesses and fixes their problems;
  • Provides assistance and support for both network based and standalone computer systems for SC/USA office staffs;
  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots and fixes computers, printers, scanners, etc;
  • Provides technical consultancy for all IT procurement related item;
  • Performs other related tasks as required.


Staff Management, Mentorship, and Development ( If applicable)

·      Ensure and manage appropriate staffing within area of responsibility

·      Ensure all direct reporting team have accurate and up –to- date JD

·      Sets standard and agreed performance objectives for all direct reports

·      Conducts  at least 6 One-to-ones on monitoring meeting in a year and have documents as evidence

·      Conducts midterm performance review at midyear for direct reports

·      Conducts end line performance evaluation for direct reports, documents and submits to HR

·      Ensure all new recruited staff gets Fraud, SS and Child safeguarding training and monitor the progress

·      Ensure staff submit accurate time sheet on monthly basis  on time

Ensure that all staff understand and are able to perform their role in an emergency as well as in development

·      contexts

·      Manage the team; define expectations, provide leadership and technical support as needed, and evaluate direct reports regularly

·      Ensure the recruitment, training, and promotion  of  staff as appropriate and ensure availability of appropriate professional development opportunities for staff

·      Incorporate staff development strategies and Performance Management Systems into team building process.  Establish result based system and follow up

·         Manage the performance of all staff in the program operations work area through:

·         Effective use of the Performance Management System including the establishment of clear, measureable objectives, ongoing feedback, periodic reviews and fair and unbiased evaluations;

o   Coaching, mentoring and other developmental opportunities;

o   Recognition and rewards for outstanding performance;

o   Effective and timely management of poor performance

o   Documentation of performance that is less than satisfactory, with appropriate performance improvements / work plans


·         Perform any other activities based on Line manager’s assignment


Job Requirements

·         Bachelor Degree in relevant field

·         Microsoft Windows Server Administration Certificate

·         Database Management System and Programming Certificate


·         5 Years, out of which 3 years directly related to support activity

·         Experience in similar international organizations is recommended


·         Problem solving skill

·         Having excellent experience with LAN, Windows Server Environment; Windows Server Network infrastructure technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).

·         Having proven knowledge in supporting basic computer applications like MS Word, MS Excel, Ms Power Point, MS Access, E-mail;

·         Having excellent proficiency in spoken and written English with strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in team situations;

·         Have commitment to work longer hours/weekends or on remote field visits whenever needed.

PERCENTAGE OF TRAVEL (Out of duty station if applicable).

·         Should travel at least 30% time to different field offices to provide the necessary support.
